In the children’s book, “Callaloo: The Trickster and the Magic Quilt,” two friends travel from Harlem to the islands off South Carolina’s coast to search for a missing patch of grandmother’s quilt.
Author Marjuan Canady and illustrator Nabeeh Bilal brought their characters alive recently during a summer camp, named From One Hand to Another.
The duo from Washington, D.C., are co-founders of Callaloo, which promotes cultural understanding for children through books, digital content, games, live performances, and more. The program is named after a Caribbean spinach dish that originated in West Africa.
